Upon arrival in Munich, it was cold and wet. We craved something warm and with flavour. What I mean by that is, although our food journey so far has been interesting, the traditional dishes of Germany and the Czech Republic are quite bland……delicious and rich, but bland. We craved spice. So to Safran we went…..and we were not disappointed.
Upon arriving, the restaurant was warm, and a nice happy buzz to it and the staff were kind and friendly. We had the option of traditional German Beer (Which Brendon chose to drink), but also drinks from just about anywhere (I ended up going with an Italian white wine).
We were served Naan bread with a choice of 1 hot, 1 mild and 1 mint yoghurt dipping sauce for a starter. The flavours were an instant hit with us and just what we were after.
For the main were ordered basmati rice, with a Tandori Chicken / masala curry and a Lamb Masali curry. The flavours were perfect. It was the first meal in days that I ate that did not make me feel heavy afterwards. The curry was hot, but the sweat on my brow only proved to me the quality of what I was eating rather than anything else.
Perfect meal to start off with in such a cold place.
