I’ll be honest, The Goni’s threw me when I first heard of it. Even asking my friends about the prevalence of schnitzel in Uruguay. However, I have not been to Uruguay as yet, so I cannot comment.
Down the stairs next to Marrickville Tavern, the place is clean and easy-going. This place advertises as bistro and accomplishes that. They have these little named sections, which more seem like making do with the structure of the building more than anything else.
Prepare to eat. Knowing that the schnitzels are HUGE, and with steaks advertised at 900g, Gemma ordered the chicken burger, which, though smaller, completely defeated her. My parmigiana was big enough to wipe out a village, and my valiant effort was to finish a quarter of it.
The gotcha is that you will likely want to take the rest home. And you can, however you need to pay for the containers. Considering how much schnitzel you get for $30, an extra buck or two saw this cover 3 additional meals for us. Not bad at all, in the grand scheme of things.
All in all, this is a fun, clean eating experience. Whether you order one schnitzel and split it, or have schnitzel for days, The Goni’s has you covered.
