Port Douglas is a resort town an hour north of Cairns, in Queensland, Australia. With beaches, restaurants, and resorts down the entire main road, the place is built for relaxation. This being a food blog, however, our focus is the restaurants, bars and generally what you can eat.
Hemingway’s is a brewery attached to a marina, so, as expected, the nautical theme is strong. Timber deck, ship’s wheels, and even the beer ordering is ‘skiffs’ and ‘sloops’. Not knowing the terminology, I ordered a skiff expecting a schooner (425mL), but got a half pint (285mL) instead. Never mind.
We ordered pork tacos, which were incredible, as well as a simple wood fire pizza, again done very well. Once done, the marina scenery was too much and we ordered dessert – mango sorbet with pecans. A cooling experience, however the additional toffee elements made it stick to my teeth.
Outdoor and indoor seating is available, and the marina also has yachts (of course) as well as some shops and other bars not in this review. A great place to spend an afternoon tasting beers, eating good food and having good conversation.
