Apologies for the delay in this post – I’m sure we can all understand the less fun part of returning home from a long weekend. A short work week with 5 days worth of work regardless and a ENOURMOUS MOUNTAIN of laundry to to…..Anyway, enough excuses. Here is part 2.
Lets start with breakfast! Traditional mountain country lodge breakfast. Eggs Benedict, Full English Breakfast (Fry up). toast, fruit, juice, coffee and tea. Enough to warm you up and get you going, but nothing overly special about it.
You can also see the plate of what was pastries here as well – forgot to take the photo of that one before we ate them…Oops! Anyway, a good bit of carb loading before commencing with the hiking trails.
Lunch: Now remember that is was a long weekend and half of Sydney was here. So all the normal tourist locations and cute cafes were of course beyond full. So where to have lunch? My solution…The local RSL club. Busy? yes, but only with the locals – so a pretty good chance of getting a table.
A burger, schnitzel and fries. Nothing special again – but certainly warming and in a nice warm location as well with plenty of fireplaces going. So all in all – I have not issues with the place at all. It served its’ purpose beatuifully.
Besides, the best is yet to come. I give you dinner at the Bootlegger Bar in Katoomba.
The Bootlegger bar is a cocktail bar, brewery and Bar & Grill. It’s small and right on the main road, in front of the station. Blink and you’ll miss it. My advice…..don’t blink – you don’t want to miss this.
From the moment you enter the atmosphere changes. Warm and friendly staff, a fantastic vibe and great smells as soon as you walk in the door. I smelled a smoked whiskey cocktail being prepared – just daring me to order it. A group were sat at the bar – clearly having a good time and I don’t blame them. I was quite jealous actually – I really enjoy watching cocktails get made 🙂
Of course, we started the evening with some drinks. I ordered an East 8 Hold Up – a lovely combination of Vodka, Aperol, Passionfruit Syrup, Fresh Pineapple and Lime. All I can say is yum! My Partner ordered a local beer (stout) – Othello’s Curse. I honestly think he ordered it for the name – but I’m told is tasted pretty amazing as well.
We couldn’t decide on what to order for food – but there was an easy solution. The meat platter – A little bit of everything. This included: Fried chicken, BBQ chickens wings, Beef brisket, smoked corn, coleslaw and I might be forgetting one more thing. But it was incredible. Highly recommended.
One tip though…make room for dessert – trust me on this one.
A choc chip ice-cream sandwich and pecan pie with vanilla bean ice-cream on the side. Oh so delicious and tasty. definitely worth a return to this place.
So the Blue Mountains finished on a high and I hope those who read this will give Bootlegger Bar a go.
