I know this isn’t a restaurant visit, but is coming out of the Sydney lockdown, I felt that a trip to the day spa with my girlfriends was in order.
Overall – 4 stars, but certainly not 5. And certainly not worth the price of admission.
Upon entry to the day spa, we were welcomed with some juice while we waited for team member to get everything ready for us. Juice, not champagne on arrival. Here is my first issue.
At Crown Sydney the customer service is dedicated to the point of suffocating. So in going to their day spa at $300 per person for a 90 minute hot stone massage, I was hoping for a bit more than just juice on arrival.
We were then showed into the ladies locker room. The locker rooms are fully equipped and even have the complete Dyson hair styling kit for use.
The locker rooms also contain the jacuzzi, steam sauna, infra-red sauna and an experience shower (it’s essentially 6 different shower heads firing at you from different angles – it’s an experience alright!)

Doesn’t it look lovely?
But it was then I realised what was bugging me? All these facilities were in the women’s room. So the men had their own room too! So what happens when you have a couples massage? You have the massage and then rather than relax together in a pool or fluffy white robe – the sexes separate for their own cleansing……..excuse me! This isn’t the 1920’s!
It should also be noted that after our massages we were still not offered any champagne.
Now after all my whining, it should be noted that the massage therapists were fantastic and we were treated very very well by the staff. I did finished the experience feeling better, rather than worse.
But in comparing my experience at Crown to other Day Spas I have been to, I found this one lacking.
Last year, my husband and I went to Chi Spa at the Shangri-La hotel in The Rocks. We had the same treatment for only $195 per person and we treated to our own private space before and after the massage with champagne.
My advice to everyone looking for something nice out of lockdown – yes, I know the waiting list to get into a day spa is long…but shop around.
