Tis the season to eat, drink and generally make merry with friends, family, colleagues and new acquaintances.
My first post for this season comes from my work’s end of year function – held at Lana restaurant at Circular Quay.
Lana is a small restaurant above the coffee / bakery / wine bar – Grana. I am also told that this was booked in February for the end of year function. So should be a good place right?…..I’ll let you decide.
Upon entry, I was escorted up several winding stairs to the eventual dining location. High chairs surrounding several high tables. Not so bad, but a little cramped and didn’t look like it was suitable for a large meal… and I was right.
Lana serves canapes only. Plenty of lovely alcohol and fairly ok service, but canapes only. Nothing substantial at all. Now, I’m not trying to be negative. I’m sure there are plenty of people who love a nice light end of year feast with plenty of booze…but I’m not one of them.
For me a function should always include plenty of crowd pleasing food that just about suit everyone’s tastes and plenty of it as well to help people to mange the amount of drinks being consumed. So When Lana serves very small and specialist canapes, I was a little disappointed.
Now, that being said, everything served was delicious.
First serving: Kingfish Ceviche in lettuce cups and raw scallops
The servings were calculated so that each person would receive 1 of each. So for my first course, I received 2 whole mouthfuls of food!
Second course: Roast duck with a berry compote
As the substantial canape, we were allowed up to 2 pieces each. Lucky us!
Dessert: Chocolate Hazelnut profiteroles, Melon wedges and berries with white chocolate.
As you can see from the images, the guests were certainly eating with their eyes……and not much else.
So while the food was delicious, I simply found myself wanting more of it.
